Recycling & Waste Reduction
Making it easy to recycle more and waste less.
Across our campus, we have implemented a range of recycling initiatives to help divert waste from landfill and promote responsible resource use.
Our blue recycling bins provide dedicated collection points for glass bottles, plastic containers (excluding black plastic), cardboard, cartons, tins, cans, kitchen foil, glitter-free cards, and empty aerosol cans. We also offer convenient recycling programs for batteries, eyewear, mobile phones, chargers, and accessories.
By making recycling accessible and encouraging responsible disposal practices, we’re helping our community reduce waste and conserve valuable resources.

Mobile Phone Recycling & Safe Device Program
Giving technology a second life while supporting vulnerable members of our community.
When mobile phones, chargers, and technology accessories are donated at SGSCC, they don’t always end their journey in recycling. Where suitable, devices are collected, securely stored, and repurposed to support domestic and family violence charities and services.
These devices can provide safe communication options for individuals experiencing domestic violence, helping them stay connected to support networks, family members, and essential services when they need it most.
This initiative helps reduce electronic waste while creating a meaningful social impact—demonstrating how sustainability can benefit both the environment and our community.

Going Digital for a Greener Future
Reducing our environmental footprint through smarter technology.
As part of our commitment to sustainability, SGSCC is transitioning to a more digital-first approach. Through our 80/20 Paperless initiative, we’re reducing paper consumption and embracing efficient digital systems across the college.
We’re also phasing out printed business cards in favour of digital business cards, helping minimise paper waste while modernising the way we connect and share information.
These changes not only reduce our environmental footprint but also improve efficiency and accessibility across the organisation.

Sustainable Living on Campus
Creating circular, community-focused sustainability solutions.
Our sustainability efforts extend beyond recycling. Through our on-campus chicken coop and community garden, we’re demonstrating practical ways to reduce waste and support local food production.
Our chickens help recycle food scraps while providing fresh eggs, and our community garden produces seasonal fruit, vegetables, and herbs. These initiatives create valuable learning opportunities while promoting sustainable living practices that can be adopted at home and in the wider community.
Fresh eggs and produce are available for purchase through The Trove Artisan Market each month, providing a direct connection between sustainability, food production, and community enterprise.

Sustainable Products & Eco-Friendly Choices
Making everyday choices count.
Small changes can have a significant environmental impact. That’s why we have introduced Truly Eco cups in the CIVIC Cafe. These cups feature compostable coatings, making them a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional takeaway cups.
We have also replaced traditional plastic bin liners with sustainable, eco-friendly alternatives across our campus, reducing our reliance on single-use plastics.
By choosing sustainable products in our daily operations, we are helping to reduce waste and encourage environmentally conscious habits throughout the college community.

Reuse, Repurpose & Community Giving
Giving pre-loved items a second life.
Some of the most effective sustainability solutions start with reuse. SGSCC encourages staff and community members to share, donate, and repurpose items rather than send them to landfill.
Our Pay It Forward internal channel provides a simple way for staff to give away items they no longer need, helping extend the life of household goods, clothing, books, furniture, and other useful items. By connecting people with items that still have value, we’re reducing waste while fostering a culture of sharing and community.

Paper Shredding & Resource Reuse
Paper Shredding & Resource Reuse

Our paper shredding initiative does more than protect confidential information—it supports sustainability too.
Paper can be securely shredded and recycled through our College, with shredded paper repurposed as bedding in our chicken coop. By finding creative ways to reuse materials, we’re reducing waste and supporting our on-campus sustainability projects.
This simple initiative demonstrates how small changes can contribute to a circular and sustainable environment.
The Trove Artisan Market
Supporting sustainability through community enterprise.
The Trove Artisan Market showcases sustainable products created by our disability participants and provides an opportunity for the community to shop locally while supporting meaningful work and skill development.
The market is also where visitors can purchase fresh produce from our community garden and eggs from our chicken coop, creating a direct connection between sustainability, inclusion, and community participation.
Through The Trove, sustainability becomes more than an environmental initiative—it becomes a way of creating positive social and community impact.
