Welcoming Community Leaders to SGSCC – Mark Speakman MP

Mark Speakman MP recently visited SGSCC to learn more about our programs, partnerships and the impact of community education across the region.
On Friday, 4 September, St George and Sutherland Community College (SGSCC) was pleased to welcome Mark Speakman MP to our campus, where he met with CEO Bernadette Mills, Disability Services Manager Rachael, students, staff and community partners.
The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the many ways SGSCC supports people across our community through education, training and disability services, while highlighting the impact of community-based learning and inclusive pathways for people of all ages and abilities.
During the tour, Mr Speakman met members of our team and gained insight into the breadth of services delivered by SGSCC, including vocational education, youth programs, disability supports, English language courses, tutoring and lifelong learning opportunities. He also heard firsthand how these programs help people build skills, confidence and connections within their community.
A key focus of the visit was the importance of collaboration. SGSCC is proud to work alongside valued partners such as Civic Disability Services, whose team operates our on-site café and supports services across the college. These partnerships provide meaningful employment opportunities and create a welcoming, inclusive environment for students, staff and visitors.
As one of Australia’s largest community education providers, SGSCC remains committed to creating opportunities for people to learn, grow and thrive. While our services have evolved since our beginnings in 1979, our purpose remains the same: empowering people through learning and strengthening communities through connection, inclusion and opportunity.
We thank Mark Speakman MP for taking the time to visit SGSCC, engage with our community and learn more about the positive impact community education and disability services continue to have across our region.
